Following the Department for Education announcement on 30th March, we are pleased to share the good news that Little Sutton and Wandle English Hubs are driving forward, along with our other phonics experts, to complete the fully revised Letters and Sounds SSP initially commissioned by DfE.
We have chosen to invest our own funding into the development of a not for profit, school to school programme which the Department recognises is a “positive step towards improving the teaching of phonics in schools who want to continue using Letters and Sounds and need or want to improve their practice.” Our new programme – Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised – will be put forward for validation at the earliest possible opportunity this year. Any school that took part in the Letters and Sounds online training in Summer Term 2020 or later will be entitled to a discount on the subscription to the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised SSP.
Our new SSP has been developed by schools for schools and provides a convenient, consistent and highly effective approach to teaching phonics, based on latest research. Our low-cost subscription will give you access to:
Templates and tools to reduce teacher workload
All necessary support for applying phonics to reading
Assessments, CPD and handy videos modelling all aspects of delivery

This Letters and Sounds website has been developed by a range of experts from Outstanding Primary schools and English Hubs, working with literacy specialists. Evidence shows that learning is most effective when children are taught by sticking to a particular programme. If you are not sure what programme your child’s school uses, please contact their school for advice.
The Department for Education (DfE) supports the use of a number of different phonics programmes.
